Our Story

Save Our Selphs was born from personal experience and unwavering compassion. Founded by Shai and Nikaila Burton, our organization emerged from the understanding that true transformation requires more than temporary solutions—it demands comprehensive support, authentic connection, and unwavering belief in human potential.

Having walked the path of struggle ourselves, we know firsthand the barriers faced by formerly incarcerated individuals and youth aging out of foster care. We understand the stigma, the challenges, the moments of hope and despair. This lived experience doesn't just inform our work—it is the foundation of everything we do.

We're in the early stages of our journey. We've participated in over 4 community vendor events, including Juneteenth at Mellon Park, building awareness and connecting with supporters. Our 501(c)(3) application is pending, our programs are designed, and we're actively working toward securing our facility and funding to launch operations.
